University of Central Arkansas student Chloe Steele (Cassi Thomson) has flown in from college to surprise her father, pilot Rayford Steele (Nicolas Cage), for his birthday party. However, her mother Irene Steele (Lea Thompson) quickly calls to inform her that her father cannot make it. Chloe does run into Rayford at the airport, but is unable to dissuade him from going to work, so she goes to see Irene alone. It turns out that Irene has become a fanatical Christian, and a few minutes into their conversation, Chloe excuses herself and brings her younger brother Raymie for an outing in the city. Things take a turn for the worse when Raymie disappears mysteriously, leaving his clothes and all his personal belongings behind. It is later discovered also that many people around the globe, including Irene, have also mysteriously vanished in similar fashion, causing mass hysteria worldwide. Can Chloe survive this massive tragedy?
Unable to persuade her father Rayford to come home for a family party, Chloe Steele goes to visit her mother Irene alone. But when she discovers that Irene has become a Christian fundamentalist, Chloe excuses herself and goes out for the day with her younger brother Raymie. While out with Chloe, Raymie mysteriously disappears, leaving his clothes, shoes, and bag behind, freaking Chloe out. Many people seem to have disappeared in similar fashion as well, as Chloe soon finds out Raymie wasn't the only one...
